Philip's teaching style is a blend of lessons learned over a 30-year career as professional actor and singer on Broadway, London's WestEnd and in theatres and concert halls across Europe, the United States and Canada. He helps you to find what is compelling or extraordinary about you and guides you to make active vocal and physical choices that highlight those strengths. In this way, you learn to say what you must in a way that is uniquely your own.

Many students are surprised by how quickly once seemingly insurmountable obstacles can be overcome. Philip has taught many people to sing but he believes, "Singing well, by itself, is just pretty noise. It doesn't mean anything unless you have something important to sing about and a specific, personal point of view about what you're saying. When you have a reason to sing, your audience will have a reason to pay attention."

Philip can also help you to master the fear and nervousness that can sabotage auditions and interviews. He teaches you how to be your best self under pressure so that you are able to make the favorable impression you desire and get the attention you deserve. Specific techniques and exercises prepare you mentally and physically so that nervousness becomes only a small, manageable part of you, freeing you to focus on what you need to do.

He also believes that this work should be tremendously fun. "I'm always very positive with the people I work with," he says. "I love my work and I enjoy passing on this craft to others.  The work is challenging but it is also great fun!  It's like solving a good mystery but in this case, the fun isn't finding out who did it, but how to do it!"  Philip also takes the pressure off his students by taking responsibility for the learning process.  "When a student doesn't understand a concept I'm trying to teach, it's my job to find another way to reach them.  There are countless ways to say anything and if I'm not able to find a way to make myself understood, the shortcoming is mine, not the student's. People come to me to teach them how to give their best when it counts. I do everything I can to get them there."

Among others, Philip has studied with legendary teachers Stella Adler, Kristen Linklater and Larry Moss. From them, he learned the necessity for a thorough understanding of the text and a free and open instrument with which to express it. He adds to these teachings his own knowledge of the mechanics of healthy vocal production in all styles and years of experience learning how to effectively prepare for and get work in today's professional theatre. Philip's students have appeared on Broadway, in National tours and in Regional theatres throughout North America.
